The more I hear about New Jersey governor Chris Christie, the more I like him. Wait until you hear what he’s doing now:
New Jersey’s new Republican governor, Chris Christie, is creating a commission that will recommend what state government functions could be done better — and cheaper — by the private sector. The commission will examine hundreds of regulatory bodies to see which might be closed or privatized as part of the governor’s plan to reduce an $11 billion deficit left by his Democratic predecessor, Jon Corzine.
This is what I want the next conservative president to do. It’s brilliant.
I wonder if they’ll look at government schools.
Cal Thomas points out the fact this would work on a federal level:
Here’s a shocker: The Office of Management and Budget has calculated that about half of all federal employees do work that is not “inherently governmental.”
Now consider this:
Federal employees earn higher average salaries than private-sector workers in more than eight out of 10 occupations, a USA TODAY analysis of federal data finds.
Accountants, nurses, chemists, surveyors, cooks, clerks and janitors are among the wide range of jobs that get paid more on average in the federal government than in the private sector.
Don’t look for Obama to do anything remotely like this. He’s increasing the number of federal employees.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported Friday that America’s unemployment rate is the highest since 1983, but while most of the job losses have been in the private sector, public sector jobs – including jobs in government, education and health services – continued to increase.
Experts conclude that the number of government jobs will continue to grow in the coming years.
Let’s really look for a conservative leader willing to do what Christie is doing in New Jersey. Is there one out there that you know of? One that isn’t so terrible flawed in other areas that makes him or her a viable candidate?
Let me know.
