McCain Blasted For Daring To Have An Opinion

McCain is in trouble with the P.C. Police again.

Muslim and Jewish groups on Monday sharply criticized Sen. John McCain’s comments that he would prefer a Christian president to lead the United States.

The Arizona Republican’s remarks came in an interview with Beliefnet, a Web site that covers religious issues and affairs.

“I just have to say in all candor that since this nation was founded primarily on Christian principles, personally, I prefer someone who has a grounding in my faith,” the GOP presidential hopeful told the Web site in an interview published Saturday. [source]

I don’t know about you, but I’m not afraid of a president who has personal preferences. It’s worth noting that America has a pretty strong track record of electing Christians to the office of President. You don’t think America as a whole has any sort of preference?

On Sunday night, McCain sought to clarify his remarks while campaigning in Hollis, New Hampshire. “What I do mean to say is the United States of America was founded on the values of Judeo-Christian values, which were translated by our founding fathers which is basically the rights of human dignity and human rights,” he said.

“I believe that anyone can be president of the United States of any faith,” McCain said, saying he was angry his remarks were misinterpreted but “there’s nothing I can do about it.”

He’s got that right. When the forces of illogic get embedded into the mind of an idiot there’s not much you can do about it.

McCain’s comments were clearly not a slam on non-Christian beliefs. Apparently, in order not to offend Muslim and Jewish groups you’d have to preface every comment in which you refer to Christianity with ten minutes of disclaimers explaining that you aren’t maligning other religions. Now the Muslims want to meet with McCain to get him understand how he was wrong. If I were McCain, my response would probably be something along the lines of “F— You”.

Thank God I’m not running for President. (And when I say God, I mean God, Allah, Jehovah, Buddha, Krishna, Ra, Zeus, Xenu, and Charles Darwin.)
