Bush did what was right, although for the wrong reason. He vetoed SCHIP because it was too expensive. He should have vetoed it because it was unConstitutional. If the children need health insurance and they have to get it through the government, let the state government turn socialist and give it to them. Or pack everything up and move to California or Massachusetts.
This goal of this program was to suck more of the middle class into government provided health insurance, a precursor to government controlled health care. As I have said before, the biggest problem with health care is government. More government isn’t going to solve anything.
But the socialists won’t be deterred. Speaker Pelosi is already looking for a few good RINOs to get her two thirds majority:
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she would try to get the 15 additional Republican votes she said she needed to overturn Bush’s veto, noting that “2-to-1 Republican voters support SCHIP and oppose the president’s veto.”
“It’s very sad that the president has chosen to veto a bill that would provide health care to 10 million American children for the next five years. It is a value that is shared by the American people across the board,” Pelosi said.
Pardon me if I don’t take lessons on the values of the American people from a San Francisco liberal who refuses to denounce, even defends, the Folsom Street Fair’s depiction of the Last Supper. It seems to me that you have a very poor understanding of the values of the American people.
Congressman Sam Graves, I am talking to you now. I will be watching how you vote here, as you know I usually do. Please Congressman, don’t let me down. Vote against this bill.
Do it for my children.
