A Ron Paul Roundup

Ron Paul

I’m pretty happy to see that Ron Paul is finally getting some decent press coverage now that he’s raised a large amount of money. Hopefully the mainstream media will spend a little more time reporting Ron Paul’s message and less time using words like “second tier” and “fringe candidate”. Here’s a roundup of Ron Paul stories and audio clips. If you’re a Ron Paul supporter and haven’t donated to his campaign yet, I encourage you to go to his website and at least donate $7 to buy a couple of bumper stickers.

On to the news…

Ron Paul is America’s only real choice for presidency

Times Herald – Port Huron, MI

Ron Paul truly is a non-partisan politician. Republicans, Libertarians, Independents and many Democrats are supporting his presidential campaign. His small-government, anti-war, personal freedom and personal responsibility stance is what attracts this otherwise diverse following.

Ron Paul is the first candidate in decades to have such a diverse group of supporters. It is easy to see why: He believes in freedom and liberty for all. That includes the liberty to not have to go to war and the liberty to keep your entire paycheck.

Only days ago, he introduced the “Tax -Free Tips Act” because by taxing tips, the Internal Revenue Service punishes workers for “doing a superior job.” People in this country are fed up with being lied to and robbed. They want the war over with and they want it ended now.
Ron Paul is the only serious presidential candidate in either party to pledge to end the war. People in general are sick of having no power to change anything in Washington, D.C. Many believe the lobbyists are in control and want their country back.

A majority of Americans believe things are going to get worse for them in the coming years, not better. Ron Paul offers hope to change all of that. He is truly the only man for the people.

What is amazing is so many Democrats, Independents, Greens, Constitutionalists and Libertarians are planning to vote for him. [source]

Why The Antiwar Left Should Support Republican Ron Paul in ’08

OpEdNews.com

I know there are some who will strongly disagree with my support for Paul. They will point out to his seemingly ‘far right’, pro-corporate positions on several issues and on his support for unfettered access to firearms. Some label them ‘kook’ positions. But Paul is no kook and he is no right-winger. He is a Libertarian Republican who has well thought out views and convictions that span decades. Many of these positions are unlikely ever to become law: I do not think Social Security, the IRS, the Federal Reserve and the CIA will ever be abolished. Furthermore, it is unlikely the U.S. will ever go back to the gold standard, a position held by most Libertarians.

But, if Paul could somehow be elected President, I believe for the first time ever the American government would have a leader who would only deploy U.S. troops as an absolute last resort. I believe we might actually have a chance of downsizing America’s imperial ambitions, or at least slowing them a bit. And even if Paul does not win, as most experts predict he won’t, every vote for his candidacy is a vote for a return to, as George W. Bush disingenuously put it in 2000, a “more humble foreign policy”.

Personally, I would rather be on record as voting for someone of substance, like Mr. Paul, than a pure politician like Clinton, Edwards or Obama. There is plenty of time to vote for the Lesser of Evils in the general election. In my opinion, those who really want to change American foreign policy need to stand up now and cast their vote for someone who, though they may not agree with him on many other issues, is a staunch, unabashed antiwar candidate. Candidate Ron Paul taps eclectic, fervent base

Tennessean.com

Brendan Wovchko of Spring Hill, who describes himself as a middle-of-the-road
Republican, heard about Paul from a work colleague, a Democrat.

He spent two hours on YouTube, watching the dozens of policy speeches Paul posted online, and something about Paul’s call for a vastly reduced federal government and empowered local government struck a chord.

“I consider myself a faith voter, but I’m no longer tied to the Republican party. They just pandered to me one election cycle too long,” he said.

“I really believe that he’s the only one who truly opposes the war,” said Williamson County homemaker Lucy Covington, who registered with the Republican Party for the first time this week just to make sure she could cast her vote for Paul.

In politics, money talks, and a lot more people are listening to Paul and his supporters these days. [source]
