I was watching Saturday Night Live this weekend, and during the Weekend Update segment they had a story about a convent in Italy being closed after three nuns got into a fight. The joke they made was the God had responded by saying, “Ladieeeees, there’s enough of me to go around!”. Both my wife, who is Catholic, and I got a good hard laugh out of it. Rampaging Muslims have killed 10 Christians, injured 61 others, destroyed nine churches and displaced more than 500 people in northern Nigeria, according to eyewitnesses – all because Muslim high school students claimed a Christian student had drawn a cartoon of Islam’s prophet, Muhammad, on the wall of the school’s mosque. There is some dispute over whether the cartoon was actually drawn.

This brings me to my point. When you’re out shopping for a deity, be sure to tell them a few jokes. If your prospective God is so insecure that he can’t take a joke, you may want to keep looking.

I like to think that the Christian God would not only get the joke I saw on SNL, but would get a good laugh. For some reason, followers of Allah aren’t allowed to have jokes about their religion, which is sad. I think Islam could use a good laugh from time to time. And not an evil “we just blew up a coffee shop” kind of laugh.
