I’m getting really tired of stories in mainstream newspapers (well, on their websites anyway) that make wild accusations and uninformed generalizations about Ron Paul. I’m going to go through this one last time. This one was in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. My comments are in bold type.
I’m tired of reading about how great Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul is.
According to some of the letters to the editor I’ve read in the Trib, Texas Congressman Paul is the savior of the United States and will single-handedly get us out of the Iraq war, end the war on drugs and shrink the size of the government.
But he is not the perfect candidate some are making him out to be. For example:
• Paul claims Iraq is a war for oil and empire.
You may not agree with it, but we didn’t go in to force democracy on them. We went in to secure the oil and land for military bases• Paul thinks we deserved to be attacked on 9/11.
This is a bold-faced lie. Ron Paul does not think we deserved to be attacked.• Paul is an isolationist.
Another lie. If you do even the smallest bit of research on this you’ll see that Ron Paul is NOT an isolationist.• Paul wants to go back to the gold standard.
I’m still trying to figure out why this would be on a list of perceived negatives.• Paul wants to get rid of the Federal Reserve.
Same as above. Do a little research and you’ll see why this is a good idea.• Paul wants to get rid of the CIA.
This is a new one on me so I can’t comment on it. I suppose I’ll do a little RESEARCH and find out the facts.Let’s give it a rest.
If you mean the lies, then yes, let’s do give it a rest.Ron Paul is a quack who shouldn’t even be considered for president, especially by rational U.S. citizens.
Reading this post reminds me of the old email joke that circulated a few years ago about the virus that was so bad it would crash your computer and then get your cat pregnant.
What we’ve got with Ron Paul is a guy who knows the constitution and is doing everything he can do to reign in the federal government. If we elect Ron Paul to be President, we absolutely will get out of Iraq. It was a Presidential order that got us into the war, and all it will take is a Presidential order to get us out of the war. The President has the power to bring our military home from places like S. Korea, Germany, and The Philippines. Rather than pumping money in the local economies of those countries, let our military bases help the economies of towns here in the United States.
We’re currently almost $9,000,000,000,000.00 in debt. Ron Paul seems to be the only one who looks at this and says, if we’re that far in debt, it’s time we stopped writing checks. That sounds perfectly rational to me. Going back to a monetary system where our currency is actually backed by something of value seems rational. Cutting unconstitutional and wasteful government programs and agencies seems like a good way to start rolling back that nine trillion dollar debt. How is that not rational?
As far as the terrorist attack on 9/11, both U.S. intelligence and the terrorists themselves have said that the reason they attacked us was because we have our military in Muslim holy land. This doesn’t mean we DESERVED to be attacked, and Ron Paul has NEVER said that we deserved to be attacked. But a rational person has to acknowledge that our military presence on Muslim holy land had something to do with the attack.
I think the real “quack” here is the guy who wrote the Tribune-Review story without understanding what he was talking about.
