Another Bad DREAM

From Neal Boortz comes the bad news that Harry Reid is again going to try to pass the DREAM Act:

As early as today, Senator Harry Reid could revive the DREAM Act, which would grant amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. The sad part is that Reid and his compadres have crafted this in a way that has gained little media attention, which means that he might actually get away with it. Millions of criminal aliens will be granted amnesty and the rest of the country won’t even know about it.

The compromise is not surprisingly also supported by Sen. Ted Kennedy and Sen. Dick Durbin. Let’s see what some of the provisions call for this time around:

  • Conditional legal status for any illegal alien who claims to have arrived in the U.S. prior to age 16.
  • Any illegal alien can apply for the program.
  • Those who gain legal status then can sponsor any family members, allowing additional millions to access the program.
  • There would be a ban on deportation for anyone who applies.
  • Illegals would be granted readily accepted into colleges and universities.

Do you see anything in there about border security? How about extra law enforcement to stabilize or secure our borders? Punishments for sanctuary cities? None. Nothing. And that’s not the end of it. Illegals who apply for the DREAM Act can count their green card status toward the five years needed to attain citizenship … lawful immigrants don’t have this luxury. Why should we give this fast track to criminals?

Oh …by the way. Can you see any way we could prove that an illegal was not in this country before he turned 16?

This is a free pass … a ploy for votes. Nothing less.

Call your Senator now. Don’t wait. click the links to the left and find your Senator’s number. Give him or her a ring now and let them know how you feel about amnesty.

UPDATE:

I just got off the phone with both Senators from Missouri. Kit Bond’s office made it very clear that he was against the DREAM Act. And if I might be so bold, and I might be, I would like to say to the young lady who answered Senator Bond’s office to try not to sound so snotty next time.

Senator McCaskill’s office said she had not made up her mind about the issue yet. So I told the young man who answered the phone that the Democrats I know are against the DREAM Act. You might want to tell her what you think. Her phone number is: (202) 224-6154.

As always, I feel it is important to not only stay informed, but to stay active. This is your government. Act like it.
