Update: Fred Phelps and The Westboro Baptist Church Hit with $11 million Fine

I was going to write the headline as “God Hates Fred Phelps,” but no, I don’t think he does. I think He loves him like a father loves his son that embarrasses him constantly and frequently hurts him. I think God wants Fred Phelps to stop what he is doing. I think God wants Fred Phelps to lead his sheep in a different direction.

I think Fred Phelps is a cult leader and an evil man. I know he owes $11 million dollars to a grieving father:

A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals in the belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation’s tolerance of homosexuality.

A member of Westboro Baptist Church protests outside a veteran’s hospital in Maywood, Illinois, in April 2006.

Albert Snyder of York, Pennsylvania, sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.

The jury first awarded $2.9 million in compensatory damages. It returned later in the afternoon with its decision to award $6 million in punitive damages for invasion of privacy and $2 million for causing emotional distress.

To illustrate how thoroughly screwed up these nitwits are, take a look at the behavior they displayed outside the courthouse:

Earlier, church members staged a demonstration outside the federal courthouse.

Church founder Fred Phelps held a sign reading “God is your enemy,” while Shirley Phelps-Roper stood on an American flag and carried a sign that read “God hates fag enablers.”

Members of the group sang “God Hates America” to the tune of “God Bless America.”

Cult. Is there any doubt in your mind? If so, what is it? I’m opening the comments for this one.

Also, let’s have a little scripture reading and if you want, you can meditate and pray on it:

Jules: Ezekiel 25:17. “The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know I am the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you.”

By the way, this is not what the Bible says. Just thought you would want to know. The last line is pretty much spot on, but the rest…I don’t know where he got all that from.
