I guess there just are not enough abortion providers in America that the Congress can give my tax dollars to. Now they have to give them away to foreign abortion providers:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A Senate committee on Thursday joined the House of Representatives in defying a White House veto threat and moving to reverse a ban on contraception aid to overseas groups that offer abortion.
Senate Appropriations Committee included the proposal in a $34.24 billion foreign aid bill that also places new emphasis on fighting diseases such as HIV/AIDS. The measure now goes to the Senate floor.
Republicans on the panel warned that President George W. Bush would send back to Congress any measure that allowed assistance to organizations that offer abortions.
I would really like to see a Madison-style president veto this because tax dollars are not supposed to be spent on this type of stuff, with the ethics of abortion coming in second. Don’t misunderstand me. I am against abortion. I would just like to see the emphasis placed on the Constitution again. Currently, Ron Paul is the only one who I could see doing this. He is polling in the single digits right now. While it does not appear that he has a chance in winning, we can still emphasize the importance of this to the first tier candidates.
