Via The Other Side of Kim comes a story about a British mayor who wants soldiers marching in a parade to march without rifles. Um, lady, it’s a freakin’ rifle regiment:
Chepstow town councillor Hilary Beach says the 1 Rifles Army regiment, based at nearby Beachley Barracks, should not carry their weapons during the ceremony because of the rising tide of gun crime across the country.
Veterans’ groups criticised her comments as “ridiculous†.
Ms Beach said the ceremony should be a time for peace and not conflict.
She said, “I would prefer there not be any guns at the Remembrance Day parade – it is a personal issue for me.
Pardon me, Madam Mayor, but aren’t firearms illegal in Great Britain? How can there be a “rising tide of gun crime” when the guns are not allowed? That’s weird. So now, in order to fight gun crime, she wants the heroes of the country to surrender their weapons.
It goes back to what Thomas Sowell said: liberals never see the problem as being the program they created. They just see the program as not being big enough. Maybe gun crimes would drop if every citizen had a gun. But instead, take the guns of the military. We wouldn’t want the kiddies seeing a gun before their next hot burglary.
