Thompson Falls Below Paul in New Hampshire
By Duane Lester • Nov 20th, 2007Things are not going well for the southern charmer in the North. People in New Hampshire just have not taken to Fred Thompson like he needs them too. In fact, they’ve taken to just about everyone else but him:
Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson has skidded into sixth place in a new CNN/WMUR poll of likely Republican voters in New Hampshire, edged out by ex-Libertarian and anti-war congressman Ron Paul and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney topped the poll, widening a lead he has held for months in neighboring New Hampshire, while Arizona Sen. John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani were running close in the second and third spots.
Thompson has dropped from 13 percent in September down to 4 percent today, while Ron Paul has climbed from 4 to 8 percent support. Mitt Romney is still crushing them, rising from 25 to 33 percent in the same amount of time.
Things don’t seem to be going as well for the Thompson campaign as people expected. He had better kick it in gear if he wants to make it past New Hampshire.
