Fred Thompson’s campaign for the Republican Presidential nomination is over.
“Today, I have withdrawn my candidacy for president of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort,” Thompson said in a statement.
Fred always seemed like a bit of a long shot, mainly because his campaign never really gathered any steam. After spending a great deal of time campaigning in South Carolina, a state in which he said he would have to win to be competitive in the race, he came in third.
No word yet on who, if anyone, he will endorse.
