Thompson v. Dodd: The Wives Series

We covered the smear piece on Jeri Thompson in another post. If you remember, I wondered where the expose was on Dennis Kucinich’s “trophy wife.” Still have not seen one. But there was an article on another candidate’s wife. Chris Dodd’s wife is quite a bit younger too, so I’m sure the article was just as hyper-critical of her hurting his campaign:

Contrast this with “The Other Dodd,” The Hartford Courant’s latest kneepad expose on Sen. Christopher J. Dodd’s presidential bid. This one also ran Sunday and focused on the 63-year-old senator’s 45-year-old wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd.

To call the piece gushing doesn’t do justice to its shamelessness: “Outwardly, Chris Dodd’s wife of eight years may not seem the ideal match for her bon vivant husband. She looks so sophisticated, so cool, the portrait of the strait-laced businesswoman-cum-proper political spouse in her powder blue suit with the gleaming Dodd 2008 jewelry prominent near her left shoulder.” The Courant went on and on and on to portray her as a protective mother of the couple’s two young children.

Well….I guess I didn’t see that coming.
