What’s This? Political Progress in Iraq? I Wonder Where the Dems Will Put the Goal Line Now?

The Surge is a failure because there is no political progress, or so the Democratic mantra goes. In their effort to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, they continue to make this claim whenever a video camera turns towards them.

Well, what will they say now:

Long derided as dysfunctional, Iraq’s parliament in recent weeks has passed a package of laws on the budget, elections and sectarian reconciliation that have given cautious hope to U.S. officials and private analysts that the gains from President Bush’s military surge are finally being matched by a political surge as well.

Daniel Serwer, a specialist on post-conflict societies, recently led a delegation from the Washington-based U.S. Institute of Peace to Baghdad to assess the political scene and interview the major Iraqi players inside the Green Zone.

“The popular image is that things are completely deadlocked in Baghdad,” he said. “That’s not what we found at all.”

Instead, he said, the delegation found Iraqi politicians cutting deals, making compromises and forming alliances based more on power and votes that on religious or ethnic bonds.

“There’s a lot of floundering, a lot of thinking and rethinking, a lot of new voices emerging,” he said. “But it’s a good deal less polarized than we anticipated.”

Another good question is whether Barack and Hillary will continue to say they will pull the military out of Iraq if they are elected. With this military progress and now political progress being made, they may face political fallout from the majority of Americans who are now seeing the progress. Will they turn away from the far left and embrace the reality of the situation, or will they continue down the path of securing defeat?

And what repercussions will Russ Feingold, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi feel when progress is shown, yet they advocate retreat? Will they maintain allegiance to MoveOn.org and George Soros, or will they take America’s side for a change?

I imagine they will dismiss the reports of political progress, or try to minimize them. I think they will claim that things are not a s rosy as they seem, and rely on the MSM to back them up. Their agenda takes priority over reality.
