Obama owes his candidacy to his race

Oh yeah, Geraldine said it first, and I backed her up on it, but this time, it didn’t come from a white woman, or a white man. It came from the founder of Black Entertainment Television, billionaire businessman Bob Johnson:

“What I believe Geraldine Ferraro meant is that if you take a freshman senator from Illinois called `Jerry Smith’ and he says I’m going to run for president, would he start off with 90 percent of the black vote?” Johnson said. “And the answer is, probably not.”

“Geraldine Ferraro said it right. The problem is, Geraldine Ferraro is white. This campaign has such a hair-trigger on anything racial it is almost impossible for anybody to say anything.”

This guy is obviously a sell-out, an Uncle Tom, a “house negro” for the Clintons, right? I mean, I fully expect to see him called these things by the Obamatons across the blogosphere. Or, is he just telling it like it really is?

The fact is, Obama has done nothing to merit the attention he is getting. He is just a two-bit politician from Cook County. He gave a great speech at the 2004 convention. But he has accomplished nothing in the Senate. He doesn’t even convene the committee he chairs.

He is getting the attention because he can speak well, and he is young, and most importantly, he is black. As far as change goes, he is offering nothing that Hillary isn’t.
