Clinton Library Refuses to Release Document Berger Burgled

Remember when Sandy Berger did this:

Mr. Berger, while acting as former President Clinton’s designated representative to the commission investigating the attacks of September 11, 2001, illegally took confidential documents from the Archives on more than one occasion. He folded documents in his clothes, snuck them out of the Archives building, and stashed them under a construction trailer nearby until he could return, retrieve them, and later cut them up. After he was caught, he lied to the investigators and tried to shift blame to Archive employees.

There is one copy left. It is called the “Millennium Alert After Action Review.” It is an assessment on how the administration was handling terrorists, was only given to 15 people in the Clinton Administration and had 29 recommendations in it.

The Clinton Library refuses to give up the last copy.

The William Jefferson Clinton Presidential Library will not make available to the public the documents that former National Security Advisor Sandy Berger illegally took from the National Archives in 2003.

A letter from the library said the total 502 pages from the Millennium Alert After Action Review (MAAR) are “restricted in their entirety,” under federal law and that the documents are “classified in the interest of national defense or foreign policy.”

Further, the library stated the documents contain “confidential communications requesting or submitting advice between the president and his advisors, or between such advisors.”

Correct me if I am wrong, but is the Clinton Library storing stolen property? These documents were taken illegally, right? What am I missing here?

By the way, Sandy Berger’s actions did not go unpunished:

In April 2005, he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge of removing and retaining classified material. He was fined $50,000, sentenced to two years probation and 100 hours community service, and stripped of his security clearance for three years. He also relinquished his license to practice law.

He also advising Hillary Clinton. Yes, that Hillary Clinton.
