Pelosi: “Drilling is a Hoax” But More Oil Would Drop the Price of Gas

Nancy Pelosi wants President Bush to release millions of barrels of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserves. She wrote that this is needed “to increase supply and decrease prices…”

She admits that an increase in the supply of oil would result in a decrease in the price of gas. No one put these words in her mouth. She wrote them in a letter to President Bush.

So how can she then turn around and say that drilling for more oil is a hoax:

“This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration” Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”

You can’t have it both ways, Nancy. Either an increase in supply lowers prices or it doesn’t. The only difference is that the oil we drill for doesn’t result in billions of dollars going to countries who hate us.

Another point she tries to make in the above quote is it is “their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.”

Really?

Blaming someone else for the consequences of one’s own actions is a liberal tactic called Blame Shifting.

It wasn’t George W Bush who banned drilling offshore, it was the Democrats.

It wasn’t George W Bush who banned drilling in ANWR, it was the Democrats.

It wasn’t George W Bush who cancelled the breeder reactor program which would have dealt with most of the high energy radioactive nuclear waste, it was the Democrats (specifically President Carter).

It wasn’t George W Bush who blocked the construction of nuclear power plants, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists.

It wasn’t George W Bush who blocked the construction of gasoline refineries, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists.

It wasn’t George W Bush who restricted oil and gas leases in many areas of the country, Congress controls the number of leases via legislation, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists who determined where and how much was to be made available.

It wasn’t George W Bush who restricted using the oil shale reserves, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists.

It wasn’t George W Bush who restricted the use coal to oil conversion, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists.

It wasn’t George W Bush who cancelled coal powered electric power plants recently, it was the Democrats and their allies, the environmental extremists.

The track record is clear, it was the DEMOCRATS and their environmental extremist allies all the way restricting the supply of oil creating an artificial shortage.

The graph below, which I found on The Patriot Room, shows how the price of gas has changed over the past few years.

Seems the price of gasoline has grown faster under Democratic control of Congress? Didn’t they say they were going to lower the price of gasoline:

Energy Independence - Lower Gas Prices

Free America from dependence on foreign oil and create a cleaner environment with initiatives for energy-efficient technologies and domestic alternatives such as biofuels. End tax giveaways to Big Oil companies and enact tough laws to stop price gouging.

Nancy Pelosi stands before the press, after pleging to lower gas prices in ‘06. She says that an influx of oil from the Strategic Oil Reserves will increase supply and lower prices. Then she says that drilling for oil, aka increasing supply, as a means to lower gas prices is a hoax. She closes her argument with the typical slam against the Republican party, when it is the politics of her own party that holds the blame.

And the press says nothing.
