22 Dead Illegals, Twice as Many as a Year Ago

By Duane Lester • Jul 13th, 2008

As I wrote in the my article “The Human Cost of Illegal Immigration - Coming to America,” just getting into the country can be a killer. So far, the number of illegals who have died trying to cross near San Diego has doubled from last year:

During the 2007 federal fiscal year – from Oct. 1, 2006, to Sept. 30, 2007 – 11 migrants died in the San Diego sector, Border Patrol Agent Mark Endicott said.

This fiscal year, 22 immigrants have died between Oct. 1, 2007, and June 30, Endicott said. That number excludes the bodies of four people found last week in the backcountry. They are suspected of being illegal border-crossers, which would push the death toll this year to 26.

We need to secure these areas. If these areas were locked down too, these folks would not be trying to get in through there, and they would not be dead.

Also, let’s give some props to the Border Patrol:

The Border Patrol has rescued 64 people through June 30 in the San Diego sector, which covers 66 miles along the border, compared with 93 rescues last fiscal year, Endicott said.
