Now According to the Left, Even Toby Keith Is a Racist

I hadn’t heard about this until I read Toby Keith’s rebuttal, but Max Blumenthal over at Huffington Post has made the assertion that Keith’s 2003 song “Beer for my Horses” is racist:

Those who doubt the presence of racist undertones in Keith’s “Beer For My Horses” should see the song’s video. (The embed link to the video’s Youtube version was disabled by Keith’s record label so you have to click here to watch it). Cue ahead to 3:00 and watch as Keith intones, “We got too many gangsters doin’ dirty deeds.” The singer’s words are not-so-subtly accompanied by the image of a swaggering black man sporting short dreads and baggy clothes. Thus the profile of Keith’s ideal lynching candidate is revealed.

Keith’s whirlwind publicity tour continues on July 30 with his appearance on CBS’s Early Show, then sit-down interviews with Esquire Magazine and Us Weekly. The following week, Jay Leno will play host to another raucous rendition of “Beer For My Horses.” Thanks to Keith and his unsuspecting hosts, lynching is becoming cool again.

Toby Keith responded to this lunacy, saying:

“The song was a hit and the words ‘lynch’ and ‘racism’ has never come up until this moron wrote this blog,” he said, according to ContactMusic.

“It’s about the old West and horses and sheriffs … and going and getting the bad guys. It’s not a racist thing or about lynching.”

This is simply another example of how the race issue is constantly being brought up by the left, not the right. This song has been out for years, and as Keith pointed out, nothing has been said about racism until now. But don’t let that stop the Obamatons. Here are a few comments from Huffington Post:

  • “I agree that it’s a repulsive song. I was not a Toby Keith fan before and I’m even less of one now. It’s attitudes like the one expressed in the song that gave us the likes of George Bush & Co.”
  • “Race neutral these lyrics are not!

They might be race neutral if the ratio of white crime versus minority crime we see in the media were equal. They might be race neutral if our law enforcement system was not perpetually supporting racial (+ socioeconomic) profiling as their No. 1 means to catch a “criminal”. They might be race neutral if our justice system judged and sentenced minorities in the same light as they do whites.

But none of those things are the reality! Furthermore, Keith himself provides the images in his video(as though the imagery in the song is not enough), so if there’s malicious intent to encite anger about racism, it is his own.”

To show you the ignorance involved in the people judging Keith racist, check out my favorite comment from HuffPo:

Does anyone else find it odd that this song just happens to come out when we have our first serious black candidate for president?

I don’t recall any lynching songs in recent history, what made him write this song now?

Luckily, there are a few people over there who have a little sense, and rejected the racist claims. The above comment was refuted with:

the song’s been out for 7 years, einstein…it’s not ‘all about obama’ except in your imagination

There are a lot of things like that these days. So much for the post-racial candidate.

There are plenty of people refuting the claim that this is a racist song, even at HuffPo. It seems that the liberals are looking for the racial boogeyman in everything they can to keep the issue alive in this election.

Here’s the video. You decide for yourself and let me know what you think.
