With the price of oil and energy being a top priority to American voters, and teh Democratic party being on the wrong side of the debate, Speaker Nancy Pelosi reversed her position and said they might be open to drilling:
In her party’s weekly radio address, Pelosi said opening portions of the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling would be a part of energy legislation that House Democrats intend to put forward in the coming weeks to oil dependence and high gasoline prices.
Lawmakers will be able to “consider opening portions of the Outer Continental Shelf for drilling, with appropriate safeguards, and without taxpayer subsidies to Big Oil,” said Pelosi, D-Calif.
Not really much of anything, is it? They will be able to “consider opening portions of the Outer Continental Shelf,” but will they be able to vote up or down on it? Remember, it was only a few weeks ago she was outright refusing to have a discussion on drilling, calling it “a diversionary tactic from a failed energy policy.” She said drilling was “a decoy, not a solution.”
In July, she said:
This call for drilling in areas that are protected is a hoax, it’s an absolute hoax on the part of the Republicans and this administration†Pelosi said at her weekly press conference. “It’s a decoy to punt your attention away from the fact that their policies have produced $4-a-gallon gasoline.â€
Now Americans are supposed to vote Democrat because Madam Speaker will let our representatives “consider” drilling.
Don’t forget, Nancy is allegedly telling her fellow Democrats to make her the bad guy in this. Well, she’s playing the role well.
