Barack Obama’s main economic platform has been a Robin Hood-like approach: raising taxes on the wealthy while lowering taxes on the middle class. It’s been rhetoric time and time again. But that might all change now, according to the Chicago Sun-Times:
Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.
Suddenly, he’s decided that it might not be a good thing to raise taxes during a possible future recession. We’ve been talking a lot about judgment calls recently, especially in the McCain camp. But as Andrew Roth points out, this puts Obama’s entire economic judgment into question:
Wow. He’s conceding that tax hikes hurt the economy. So why even consider raising taxes in the first place?
Why indeed, Senator Obama?
