Freedom of religion is a right that many people take for granted. They have never had to deal with hiding their religion, or living in fear of the government finding out they believe in a doctrine different than the state’s. In Iran, they have no such right:
Tehran, Iran, Aug. 13 – Iranian authorities in Tehran lashed a man on his back earlier this year for having a bible in his car, an Iranian Christian group said in a report on its website on Friday.
The man was only identified by the initials A. Sh.
On 5 May, the man, driving his vehicle, was involved in a road accident with a car belonging to security guards for a government official in Tehran.
A bible and a video of Jesus Christ were found in the man’s possession upon inspection of his vehicle by the state security forces (SSF).
A. Sh. admitted to being Christian, prompting the security agents to beat him up, the report said. He was arrested and taken to a holding cell in Detention Centre 102.
During interrogation security agents accused the man of converting from Islam to Christianity, a practice banned under Iran’s strict theocratic laws.
That is why it is Freedom of Religion, not Freedom from Religion. Too many liberals and leftists want to change the First Amendment to prevent them from having to endure some people’s beliefs. You know, terrible things like hearing “Merry Christmas” or having kids look for Easter eggs in a public park. This from the side of tolerance, the apologists for the Religion of Peace.
There are people in America who would not have a problem with this being done to people for following any religion. I’m not exaggerating. I have debated people who advocate death for global warming deniers. A simple beating isn’t anything to worry about.
I also challenge those who read this and call themselves Christians: Would you be willing to take this beating for your beliefs? Or would you hide your light under a bushel?
