It didn’t take long, but Obama has already started. Change.gov is the online “Office of the President-Elect.” Under the heading “America Serves,” you can see the plan Barry has to ensure we are connected “to that fundamental American ideal that we want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness not just for ourselves, but for all Americans.”
His plan? Forced labor:
Obama will call on citizens of all ages to serve America, by developing a plan to require 50 hours of community service in middle school and high school and 100 hours of community service in college every year.
Just to make this as clear as possible, Obama is planning on making every middle and high school aged kid in the country to do 50 hours of community service and every college age kid will double that each year. I know I’m not alone in thinking this is wrong. There are history books filled with national leaders forcing the citizenry to work in order to love their country.
When I was writing this, I questioned whether the term “forced labor” was too strong a term, so I Googled it. From the Anti-Slavery Society, here is the definition of “forced labor”:
Forced labor is a practice of compulsory labor exacted by a state or by agencies of a state, other than as a punishment for a criminal offence.
That sounds like Obama’s plan for your kid. I wonder if Thomas Jefferson would define the American Dream as the government forcing citizens to pick up cigarette butts in the city park.
