How not to bridge the partisan rift in America: Make fun of Ronald Reagan’s 87 year old widow, Nancy Reagan in your first press conference as President-Elect.
Mr. Obama, you can walk into the room with a silver platter full of warm cinnamon rolls, but if there’s a turd in the middle of them, what do you think people are going to remember? Today you behaved like a Jackass.
UPDATE
Obama apparently called Mrs. Reagan this afternoon to apologize for the offensive joke he made at her expense.
“President-elect Barack Obama called Nancy Reagan today to apologize for the careless and off handed remark he made during today’s press conference,” said transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter. “The President-elect expressed his admiration and affection for Mrs. Reagan that so many Americans share and they had a warm conversation.”
There are a few people in this world who I feel admiration and affection for, and I don’t go out in public and crack offensive jokes about them. So while he was right to apologize to Nancy Reagan, I don’t believe for one minute that he actually has any admiration or affection for her.
Mrs. Reagan is a very kind and forgiving woman to forgive him for making fun of her the way he did today. I, on the other hand, still think Obama is a Jackass.
