Sunshine Swing State

Florida has been known as a swing state for many elections.  Nobody can forgot the infamous “chads” and faulty voting machines which helped make the 2000 elections so highly disputed.  One particular area of Florida stands out from the rest as a key battle ground area which is known as the I-4 Corridor.  The Corridor is the area across Central Florida following interstate 4 which starts at Daytona, goes through Orlando, and ends at Tampa Bay.

What makes this area a battleground?  Unlike North and South Florida, which has a higher volume of long standing established residents, Central Florida has many new residents with either varying political affiliations or none at all.

Recently, ABC new featured the I-4 Corridor in its segment “50 States 50 Days.”  Follow the link for the video and full article It is very short and informative.  I am proud to say one of my college professors, Aubrey Jewett from the University of Central Florida, was featured in the segment.  While most of the clip focuses on the typical media guided economy crisis hype, the remaining portions help to illustrate just how unpredictable the Corridor really is.
