Elvira Arellano has been holed up in a Methodist Church in Chicago for almost a year. Now she says she is leaving the sancutary in order to lobby Congress, but really it is to make a spectacle of herself and her apprehension.
“If this government would separate me from my son, let them do it in front of the men and women who have the responsibility to fix this broken law and uphold the principles of human dignity,”Elvira Arellano, 32, said, reading in English from a prepared statement.
She broke our laws by entering the country, had an anchor baby, and now demands that we respect her. How about a little respect for us? She certainly has no respect for our laws:
Arellano came illegally to the U.S. in 1997. She was deported shortly thereafter, but returned and worked different jobs, including childcare. She moved to Illinois in 2000 because she had friends in the Chicago area and took a job cleaning planes at O’Hare International Airport.
She was arrested in 2002 at O’Hare and later convicted of working under a false Social Security number. She was to surrender to authorities last August, but decided instead to take refuge at her church.
Also, the United States government is not stopping her son from leaving the country. All this ballyhoo about separating her from her son is nonsense. Take him with you when you leave, Elvira. The only person separating him from you is…YOU! It is no one else’s fault that you chose to come here and chose to have a son. It is your fault you are in this bind. You created this situation, not the Congress and not the American people. Stop playing the victim.
And don’t lobby Congress. Ask these bleeding heart liberals to donate to a new house in Mexico. Then head back South and try to come in the right way. Lobbying Congress is a waste of time. They rarely listen to the people who vote for them.
