If you mention the Chairman on your MySpace or Facebook page, you might be under investigation. Two police officers were critical of the Chairman on their MySpace page, and are now being investigated:
Derogatory remarks toward President-elect Barack Obama made on a social networking Web site are now the subject of an internal police investigation.
A police department employee claims the statements were made on the MySpace pages of two Durham officers.
“There’s no exact words that were said,” said Police Chief Jose L. Lopez Sr. in a telephone interview Wednesday from San Diego, where he is attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference. “It wasn’t a racial slur, but we’re still investigating it.”
Investigators, who are focusing on the context of what was written, have been looking into the allegations since Thursday.
If I am not mistaken, America was built on the idea of the people being able to make derogatory remarks about the politicians who are screwing up the country. I know this blog was built on that idea. So, why are these two cops even being looked at? They have a right to call the Chairman whatever they want. Now, if they had made overtly racist comments, that could fall under any code of ethics the police department may have, but the article clearly states that isn’t the case.
This is just the beginning.
