There are some things the Pentagon needs and they need right away. They label theses things “priority” when they ship them and they are usually paid automatically. Two lying, cheating, dirty rotten thieving, sisters started exploiting the needs of the military and the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who needed those parts by charging outrageous shipping costs for the parts ordered:
Aug. 16 (Bloomberg) — A small South Carolina parts supplier collected about $20.5 million over six years from the Pentagon for fraudulent shipping costs, including $998,798 for sending two 19-cent washers to an Army base in Texas, U.S. officials said.
The company also billed and was paid $455,009 to ship three machine screws costing $1.31 each to Marines in Habbaniyah, Iraq, and $293,451 to ship an 89-cent split washer to Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida, Pentagon records show.
When these two criminals charged close to a million dollars for shipping the 19 cent washers, a purchasing agent with a brain noticed the shipping was a bit over the top. That’s when the scheme unraveled. Other orders have shown suspect shipping charges, but nothing as bold as what these two thieves were doing. The system has since been overhauled.
The one sister faces 20 years and heavy fines. The other one is dead.
The government plans to auction off everything the sisters own to recoup the money.
