GREER, S.C. (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney said Thursday that the minimum hourly wage should be tied to benchmarks in the economy, which would help squelch future debate on increasing the paychecks of low-paid workers.
Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, favors the wage being tied to changes in the inflation index, commonly known as the consumer price index, and to data on employment and jobless rates.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
How about this, Mitt? Show me where the Constitution gives the Federal Government the authority to mandate the wages of private employees nation-wide.
It isn’t there, Mitt. The federal government has no business telling anyone in the country what they have to pay someone for the work they do. The states already have that power and even that is an intrusion.
I understand that saying the minimum wage should be abolished is a political risk you are not willing to take, but you should have just left this alone rather than express more government interference in the market.
