Yesterday, Governor Rod Blagojevich was indicted for trying to sell Obama’s Senate seat to the highest bidder. He’s innocent until proven guilty, but there are transcripts of taped conversations he had with various people discussing his desire to benefit monetarily from the appointment.
Yesterday at a press conference, Sen. Obama (he’s not the President-elect yet folks) said that he had not talked to Gov. Blogojevich about the appointment:
“I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening,” … “It is a sad day for Illinois. Beyond that, I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment”
I was listening to Sean Hannity during the press conference, and when he said that, I thought Hannity’s head was going to pop. He already had a soundbyte from David Axelrod from just seventeen days ago, contradicting the denial Obama just made:
His statement that he didn’t have contact with Blagojevich about the Senate seat seems to conflict with that of top adviser David Axelrod, who told Fox News Chicago on Nov. 23: “I know he’s talked to the governor, and there are a whole range of names, many of which have surfaced, and I think he has a fondness for a lot of them.”
Here is a link to the video. I’m guessing YouTube dropped it on the request of My Fox Chicago.
Now, the Axelrod is saying that he misspoke. The infallible Obama is correct, Axelrod is wrong. Nothing to see here. Move along.
I was mistaken when I told an interviewer that the President-elect has spoken directly to Governor Blagojevich about the Senate vacancy. They did not then or at any time discuss the subject.
Are you buying that, or do you think there is more to the story?
