Gun sales have been off the charts since President Barry won the election. A recent gun show in Florida was evidence of that. Some of the smaller vendors at the show had to cancel, not because they were too small, but because they had sold themselves out of inventory prior to the show.
The first reason for the high sales is obvious. America has just elected a very anti-gun government. Obama can try to tell us all that he is pro-Second Amendment all day long, but some of us still remember when he thought the D.C. gun ban was Constitutional, right before the SCOTUS said it wasn’t. Then he thought the court was right.
Real firm stance on the right to bear arms you have there, Barry.
The second reason for high gun sales you may not have considered, but it makes a lot of sense:
“I’d say 60 to 70 percent of my customers today were women,” Ball said. “Everybody’s on edge with the economy the way it is, and quite a few females are looking to protect themselves from the hoodlums running around.”
People are buying guns for self defense due to the economic downturn. This is one of the main reasons our brilliant Founding Fathers created the Second Amendment. Thomas Jefferson said:
“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
There is no question what the Founding Fathers intended when they wrote the Second Amendment. They fully intended it to be an individual right, not a collect right retained by the state militia.
This is one of the main reasons liberals fight for the idea of a “living Constitution.” They say the Constitution has to “evolve” with the changes in society and reflect the social norms of the day. They say that the Founders never foresaw chain guns or .50 caliber sniper rifles.
I say they allowed for changes in the Constitution via the Amendment process because they couldn’t see the future. If liberals want to take the Second Amendment and flush it down the toilet, let them try to appropriately and see how the public reacts.
The Second Amendment was created so individual citizens could protect themselves from those who meant to infringe on their rights, including the government that swore to protect them. Any government or person that intends to limit that right does not have the best interest of the individual in mind, but the best interest of the oppressor, whatever form they may take.
