Mentally Ill Man in Florida Charged with Threatening the President

I have to wonder why the Secret Service is bothering to interview someone on an involuntary commitment order. Maybe things are slow in Florida these days:

9_secret_service.jpgTimothy Wade Pinkston, 47, told hospital staff that he planned to go to Washington and shoot the president. When Secret Service agents arrived to interview him, he repeated the threat, saying he doesn’t like the president’s foreign policy or his handling of the war in Iraq, according to an affidavit filed by the Secret Service in U.S. District Court.

Pinkston was charged Friday with threatening the president, a federal crime.

Well, I’m glad we got that guy off streets and, um, well, he was off the streets already. I mean, he was in a nuthouse, but I guess he still needed to be charged. I guess.

Props to the Secret Service. I love the president, by the way.
