The simple fact is the Democrats are going to pass whatever they want to pass. They have the votes. And when they are bring bills to the floor of Congress that are topping $1 trillion dollars, with $335,000,000 for the prevention of sexually transmitted disease, there is no logical reason for any Republican to vote for the bill.
But the Democrats, Obama included, want the Republicans to put aside politics and vote for what is best for the country.
Understand exactly what he wants. Obama wants limited government Republicans to put aside those values and vote for a bill that goes against everything they believe in. He wants them to be a part of this huge spending bill.
Why?
Because when it fails, and it will fail, he can look at Republicans, point his finger and say, “Well, it would have worked if those Republicans hadn’t cut so much out of it.” If he can get the Republicans to vote for it, he can put the blame on them, because the vote was bipartisan.
Allowing Democrats to Fail
There are time when my son wants to try something that I know is going to fail. He’ll explain what he wants to do, I’ll explain why it’s going to fail, he’ll insist on trying it anyway.
“Give it a shot,” I’ll say.
I’ll allow the thing to fail. Then explain why it failed and how he can achieve what he is trying to do.
The Republicans should do that here. They should just shut up, change nothing but vote against everything, and when it fails, show how they allowed the Democrats to try their way.
It prevents any and all blame from being shifted to them.
It would take guts. People might not get it. I think the Republicans could explain it, but people would still be upset. But people are going to be upset regardless.
Republicans should tell the people, “The Democrats think they can spend their way out of the mess their policies have created. This is Keynesian folly. We know the solution lies in the free market, but they refuse to listen. Since we can’t stop them anyway and know they will try to blame their failure on us if we get in the way, so we are standing aside so you to see what their policies result in. If they are right, which they aren’t, you win. If they are wrong, then they cannot shift the blame to us and spin their failure as ours. You will see what socialism results in. Then, perhaps then, you will choose freedom and liberty, rather than dependence.”
The Waiting Game
Now, just sit back, vote against everything, offering no amendments, no suggestions. After all, any Democrat will tell you this is a result of 8 years of failed Bush economic policies. Heck, that’s what Obama ran on. Then when the crisis gets worse, turn to the people and say, “They had their turn. Now it’s ours. Here. This is what we should do.”
And I would have Ron Paul explain it. No, really. I would probably give him a couple Southern Comfort and Cokes to calm him down a little, but I would send him out there and say, “Explain Austrian economics to them. Get them to understand why the Democrats have failed. Explain what we will do.”
Is there a better person to explain it? I can’t think of one. I love Ron Paul’s economic stances. Most Americans do also.
But the Republicans cannot allow themselves to get in a position to be blamed for this failure. The Democrats have the votes they need to pass everything they want. Let them. Then, the failure is all theirs.
If we really want to educate the American people to what liberal policies will bring them, let them see. In a way, it’s what John Galt did in “Atlas Shrugged.” The Republicans need to retreat to Galt’s Gulch, watch the liberals completely fail, then enter the picture to clean up the mess.
