I mentioned the Democrats fighting for the teacher’s unions bt destroying voucher programs earlier, and I wanted to build on that. American Spectator has an article detailing how much of an impact the cancellation of Washington D.C.’s Opportunity Scholarship Program will have on families using it.
Aside from the fact that 1700 kids will be forced out of private schools and back into public schools, the most troubling thing is that people don’t know who to blame. This was the action of one man, and that man was supported by the Congressional Democrats. His name is Dick Durbin, liberal Democrat from Illinois.
OSP lost its funding at the federal level. Sen. Dick Durbin, a Democrat from Illinois, added language to the $410 billion omnibus spending bill enacted on March 11 that cut off the $14 million for the OSP. Senate Republicans submitted an amendment to remove the funding restrictions, but it was voted down.
Senate Republicans fought for it. Senate Democrats destroyed it. Why were there no Republicans at the rally to drive that point home? This is an issue that can drive voters away from statist Democrats and towards conservative Republicans. The fact that Marion Barry was a speaker, but no Senate Republicans were is embarrassing. These folks should have been informed of exactly who was to blame.
Dick Durbin wrote the language.
Senate Democrats fought to keep it in there.
Barack Obama signed the bill.
Repeat.
