Another Reason to Homeschool: The No-Child Left Inside Act of 2009

The federal government has no role in education. It’s that simple.

Show me in the Constitution where it gives the federal government any authority over education. I actually had a liberal tell me once that Thomas Jefferson was a proponent of public schools.

So what? It isn’t in the Constitution. It doesn’t matter.

The federal government shouldn’t be involved in education because it prevents it from dictating a national education agenda or promoting propaganda.

environmentalist-studiesSpeaking of propaganda, Democrats have passed a bill called the “No Child Left Inside Act of 2009.” According to Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) the bill supports environmental education in America’s schools. It sounds very close to special interest driven propaganda, mandated from an authoritarian central government:

The bill, sponsored and co-sponsored by Democrats, was introduced in the House and Senate on Earth Day, April 22. It would provide $500 million over five years to schools with approved “environmental literacy” plans for students in grades kindergarten through 12, and offer competitive grants to schools and non-profits for outdoor education projects.

But some critics charge that what appears to support getting kids outside to learn about nature also promotes an environmental message with a more political agenda.

Clearly. The question that came to mind when I read this was, “Who is writing the curriculum?” Greenpeace? James Hansen? Earth First?

The second thing that came to mind is, “Do we really need this? What happened to biology? Earth science? Field trips?”

Yes, I know. Schools are strapped for cash, and this will provide them with the opportunity for more field trips and visitors. But it also allows the federal government to dictate the lessons.

The Democrats are controlled by environmentalists. That’s why we don’t drill in Alaska. That’s why 85% of our shoreline is off limits for drilling. That’s why windmills are sprouting up all over America, rather than nuclear power plants.

It is incredible to think they won’t use this opportunity to force public schools to indoctrinate children into the fold.
