Those programs are socialized medicine. We have socialized fire departments as well. They might need to go.

I shopped it through other companies and it is the same price. Better insurance and more tax benefits.

Health insurance is my #1 priority every year. I research it extensively. Now I have to go call the hospital about a $448 bill for a consultation. That is $126 more than the anesthesiologist bill for my son getting tubes in his ears…oh good times.

The GOP had the house/senate for 6 years and didn't have the foresight to see any of this coming? i have been calling my reps constantly about it. Oh well, let's go fight another war!

now you're just being ridiculously facetious. get rid of VA hospitals? how about instead, just find ways to make them better and cheaper. are you serious? people eligible for VA hospital care: combat vets taking care of YOU [and their families]. people eligible for medicare/medicaid: older people, people with disabilities, and medicaid pretty much covers everyone else. IF people earn things (like fight to keep us free) what's wrong with them getting benefits?

Social Security would be on my ax list (with stipulations for people who've paid in for 30+ years), along with our current tax code, the department of energy, the EPA, most unions, lobbyists, all Czars, the white house press organization.

martin, if you're paying over $1000 a month for insurance from your business, why don't you try shopping for your OWN insurance. 'they' did the shopping for you, but have you done any for yourself or your family? Right now, at work, I'm a temporary worker. I'm not eligible for benefits, and I dont' want to purchase health insurance. That doesn't mean I run to the government and expect them to cover things, either. It means that I and I ALONE am responsible for my bills. This is why I don't go to the doctor often and you can be dang sure I'm not a burden on anyone else. Maybe I should try failing at everything and see if I get bailed out, because our government is rewarding failure right and left.

but hey, if you're really going that far, take education benefits away from soldiers, life insurance (that they pay premiums on), the health care… heck, why even pay them.

You mean I would get to deduct $6,000 of my $13,000 under McCain's plan? Wow, I would be so in the clear. What is the average jump each year in costs? Anything being done about that?

I say get rid of Medicare, Medicaid and the VA hospitals immediately. Free market now!

John McCain had a decent plan, but Barack Obama demonized it by saying McCain would pay for it by taxing employer health benefits. Now, the Democrats are suggesting they will by for their plan by taxing employer health benefits.

The Republican plans are there. People are just to busy being razzle-dazzled by Obama to see them.

The government is already a major competitor in our health care industry as it is with medicare and medicaid. That is a significant part of the cost issue. Where you or I pay large amounts for things like a hip replacement, a patient covered by one of the above programs only reimburses the doctor roughly $1300 from the government. As the article says: someone, somewhere, somehow will pay. That's us and our insurance companies. We cover the difference of that government competition. Add to that the ridiculous cost of malpractice insurance that doctors must carry, and there is no way doctors can afford to lower their costs which must be paid by someone, somewhere, somehow – that's us because the government refuses to pay. And even with those government programs of medicare and medicaid, the government is going broke. Making the health care industry entirely socialized WILL NOT solved that problem. They aren't addressing cost; they're just hiding it under different shells and hoping you and I are too dumb to figure that out while they quietly take total control of our literal lives from birth to death.
