I have starting using a program called Ecto for my blogging. I was using Microsoft Live Writer, but since I switch from the Dell to a Mac, I can’t use it anymore. Microsoft, believe it or not, doesn’t make Live Writer for Macs. Go figure.
Anyway, I downloaded Ecto a few months back and tried it out. You can use it for free for a while. I didn’t use it much because I still had Live Writer on my Dell. Well, the Dell finally gave up the ghost. The hard drive did anyway. Over the next couple weeks (maybe months) I’ll be trying to get the data off the HDD and transferred to a backup drive.
Learn from my mistakes, kids. Back up hard drives are not that expensive. You can get a 500 gb backup drive from Newegg.com for less than $100. Do it. I wish I had. I have quite a few episodes of Bloglines on the Dell that I never transferred to RFC Radio’s FTP. Instead of buying it before the HDD crashed, now I get to buy it anyway, plus SpinRite and get to learn all about data recovery.
Fun!
But back to Ecto…so far, I like the interface. I never thought I would use a third party blogging platform, but after using Live Writer for so long, and growing to love it, I find it hard to go back to the WordPress input screen.
As I get more comfortable with Ecto, I’m sure I’ll like it just as much as Live Writer.
If you use Ecto and have any tips, please leave them in the comments section. I’d love to read them.
