With all the outrage over the government’s plan to reform health care, the Democrats are wondering if they can pass the bill come September. While they are doing their best to blame the Republicans for this failure, the fact remains that they own both sides of Congress and the White House. The Republicans can hold a press conference, but they don’t have the votes to stop any piece of legislation that is offered up. Not alone, anyway.
The moderate Democrats are the ones preventing this. Which is why Sen. Tom Daschle says if the left wants to pass this, they may have to do it via a budget process know as reconciliation:
“That’s not the best way, but that could be the only way,” said the Senate’s former top Democrat who has an expertise in the arcane rules of the upper chamber.
In a sign that the tactic is under consideration in the White House, Daschle said “that came up” in the meeting with Obama but wouldn’t say how the president viewed it.
“I’ll let him speak for himself,” said Daschle, who was Obama’s first choice for Health and Human Services secretary before tax problems dogged his nomination earlier this year.
Go for it.
Really. If you think the outrage is bad now, you are in for a big surprise if they pull a stunt like this.

I’ve had my ear to the ground, and they don’t think it’ll be a problem.
They figure they’ll ram it through, then we’ll forget about it in plenty of time for 2010.
Baucus and Tester, in particular, are convinced the people will accept whatever Obama hands down from on high.
Basically, it’s “what are they gonna do about it? Snicker…pfft!!”
After all, the press is on their side and so are the armed forces.
