Carter: Protests Against ObamaCare Based on Racism

It’s like I said in my new vlog, leftists will try to steer the debate towards the person via charges of racism rather than discuss the true heart of the matter, regardless of the topic.

Ever since PresBO announced he was running, the charges of racism have been leveled at every turn, even against Bill Clinton. It’s a weak argument and a logical fallacy, but it’s effective as Hell because a charge of racism generally results in the supposed racist forgetting about the real debate and instead focuses on defending themselves against the charge of racism.

That being said, let’s consider the words of one of the worst presidents in American history. President Jimmy Carter recently leveled an accusation at millions of American. Rather than not wanting any more government, rather than seeing the skyrocketing spending as a danger to the entire republic and rather than fearing a total disaster in America’s health care system, the protesters are just upset that a black man is living in the White House:

“I think an overwhelming portion of the intensely demonstrated animosity toward President Barack Obama is based on the fact that he is a black man, that he’s African-American,” Carter told NBC News. “I live in the South, and I’ve seen the South come a long way, and I’ve seen the rest of the country that shares the South’s attitude toward minority groups at that time, particularly African-Americans.”

“That racism inclination still exists, and I think it’s bubbled up to the surface because of belief among many white people — not just in the South but around the country — that African-Americans are not qualified to lead this great country. It’s an abominable circumstance, and it grieves me and concerns me very deeply,” Carter said.

He also lumped Rep. Joe Wilson into the category of racist for his outburst in Congress:

“I think it’s based on racism. There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president,” he said.

I suppose now I could list the number of African Americans in George W. Bush’s cabinet, but that would be too “I’ve got black friends, too.”

I could list off the number of racist statements by the left, but that would be too tu quoque.

So how do you respond to this? Ignore it? No, you can’t ignore it.

You don’t allow it to change the focus of the debate. This is just a tactic to get the argument off the real subject, the expansion of government into unconstitutional areas and the encroachment of government power into our lives. This is more than health care reform. This is about cap and tax, bailouts, taxation, and the power of the individual. This is about the free market vs. socialism. This is about seeing the effects today’s actions will have on tomorrow and wanting America to be around when our grandchildren are born.

Allowing the left to direct the conversation away from these facts allows them to control the debate. Recognize what they are doing, call them on it and refocus on the real reasons for protest.

Freedom and liberty. That’s what this is all about.

I would say most of the vigor and angst about the healthcare proposal is about race. Like I have said before….did just this healthcare debate enlighten and get people to realize their gov’t was wasting money? Come on. All of the sudden now people don’t want the gov’t spending money? 6 years of not ONE veto and a meaningless war that put us so far in debt and now people are upset.

What about all the waste our military has? Where is the uprising there?

In order for your statement to be correct, we would have to overlook all the dissent concerning Bush’s spending. Look over this blog, and other websites of the same political vein and tell me our anti-big government is about race.

Don’t come in here and tell me I’m a racist, or my friends are racists or a whole movement is racist based on your opinion.

Jimmy Carter thinks racism is “inherent” in this country. I think being an asshole is “inherent” in the mindset of the left.

    So nya-nya-nya!

Yeah, I remember all of the protests in the streets and at town halls by conservatives on Bush’s spending. Remember when the signs had Bush with a bone in his lip and claiming he was smuggled in from Kenya? I remember signs that said Bush wasn’t a citizen…… Do you happen to have any of those pictures?

No one is calling your friends racist. No one is calling you racist. The tea party and healthcare protests are more against the president’s color than his policies. WHy would they call them self Freedom Riders? Do you remember what the original Freedom Riders were?

You have pundits saying no to multi culturism and calling our president a racist…..We thought this country was far more progressive when it comes to race but it really wasn’t…

Martin, I feel sorry for you. Really I do. To be so desperate that all you can do is claim racism is in any and every criticism of Liberalism and Obama is a true sign of your desperation.

This is funny. This entire article is about how things are NOT racist, and Martin’s comment is: it’s based on race. Apparently, it’s ok to not use your head when combating logical arguments. This ‘movement’ if you want to call it that, isn’t against Obama. It’s against government spending, and most of the anger is spread towards the Congressional bastards who are in charge of supposedly writing bills (though they’ve taken a break on that lately), reading bills (they haven’t done this either), and passing legislation (to include budgets and spending) for the President to sign. If they don’t read the bills, they’re irresponsible. If they pass bills that are bad for America, that’s irresponsible. If they don’t write the bills, that’s lazy and irresponsible. If the President signs bad bills, or doesn’t veto them, that’s irresponsible. There’s enough blame to go around the last 10 years (yes, I’m including Clinton’s last 2 because Congress STARTED to fall apart then).

Martin, where do you get your information? The info being tossed out during the hearings on whether or not to keep funding the Iraq war was that the Iraq and Afghan wars were costing 10 billion per month (between the 2). SO, 10 billion x 12 months = 120 billion a year. How many months since March 2003? 78. 78 * 10 = 780 billion dollars for TWO wars over more than 6.5 years. Congress spent 787 Billion on ONE bailout. Which is going to irritate people more, solely based on the amount spent? Something tells me that spending has gone down the last few months since we’ve been slowly pulling out of Iraq and are doing fewer patrols in the cities (which saves equipment, time, and human lives). We’ve spent MAYBE a trillion dollars over the last 8 years on TWO wars. Our deficit on this year’s budget alone is more than that. Cutting all spending for the wars immediately wouldn’t even come close to closing that budget difference.

Obama claimed a lot of things during his candidacy. one was that he’d be the most transparent administrations. His college records are sealed. The only thing we’ve seen of his birth certificate is a scanned copy. The things he promised about seeing bills 5 days before they were voted on hasn’t been followed. His only response to critics (of both sides) is that “they are lying, and I am telling the truth”. What kind of silly response is that, EVERY TIME? he’s keeping his special interests in the loop and keeping Americans in the dark. There’s more going on behind the scenes now than ever before. Some of it’s in plain site, but if the media doesn’t report on it, we’ll NEVER KNOW. And since he pretty much bought 1/2 the media (GE’s ‘co-op’ with the government when they just happen to own several stations) for lucrative future profits, we’re in the dark. need proof? read the other stories here. Bob Gibson, the ABC news anchor had NO IDEA about ACORN’s scandals. even days after the stories broke. that’s an EPIC failure for the media.

I love your satire, Martin. Too bad you STILL can’t respond to simple questions, and instead attack the person. How come that is?

    things like:
How come you keep paying for $1200 per month health insurance and do nothing but complain rather than shop around?
How come that leads you to turning to the government to fix your problems for you? Lazy or just not bright?

    OR:
You are pissed at Bush, the white Republican for a war and spending, but can’t wait to jump on the half-white/half-black Democrat and his spending that makes Bush’s look small? Obama hasn’t ended either war (the process in Iraq was decided BEFORE Bush was done being President) and is expanding Afghanistan, like Iraq. He hasn’t stopped the Patriot Act, he’s continued Rendition (but on petty crooks, not brutal terrorists.

I assumed you’d like my dislike for Bush2, but you can’t help but try to focus away from the story at hand and try to tear down the person. It’s such a shame.

See prior responses on why I pay that. Not going to re hash that again for sure. I write you, you respond, like a GOP puppet.

I’m not asking the gov’t to fix my problems at all. I’m asking the gov’t to regulate an industry that bleeds customers of their money just so they can live longer. Wages are not going up and health insurance could average $24,000 per family in 5 years. So no gov’t and they will work themselves out? Yeah, i trust them to look out for me!
