CNN Defends Obama Against…Saturday Night Live

There must not be anything going on in the world if Wolf Blitzer has enough time to discuss a Saturday Night Live skit on Barack Obama’s accomplishments.

It’s interesting that they mention Sarah Palin in the story, as is expected, but they don’t mention that one of the biggest jokes on the show during the campaign, that Sarah Palin said she can see Russia from her house, was totally untrue. Palin never said that.
Funny, now that I think about it, I don’t remember them fact checking SNL during the campaign.

  1. SNL was brutal on their treatment of Sarah Palin during the campaign. If they goofed on Obama is was almost always a softball comedy bit.

Got into a discussion about this with someone close to me, and she said that it’s only comedy.

So my question was, if a guy only makes jokes about jews, is it just comedy or is it anti-semitism?

If someone only makes jokes about black people, is it just comedy or is it racism?

The answer is that if someone makes lots of jokes about all kinds of people, then it’s comedy. When you constantly make jokes about one person or group, it’s no longer comedy.

George Carlin wrote a few jokes about rape, and they were actually pretty funny jokes. But if he has done nothing but rape jokes it wouldn’t have been funny at all. He was able to make jokes about rape because he made jokes about EVERYTHING.

So I’m glad to see SNL starting to write some real material on Obama. They’ve missed out on a good two years or more of pure comedy gold by leaving him alone. And they’ve lost a lot of fans in the process.

  3. CNN, don’t suck up so much, there’s something on your cheek. “dead on portrayal of Palin” but “not quite right on Obama”… please. I laughed at the Palin stuff, I laughed harder on Obama stuff because it was more correct.

  5. Some mainstream media outlet really should call out CNN on this. Absolutely unbelievable, but not surprising. Since when does CNN fact-check SNL skits? They never fact-checked skits about Palin or Bush. And you’re right Grim, “dead on portrayal of Palin”… The dishonesty and bias is so blatant it makes me ashamed of the American media. It’s just as bad as Katie Couric asking Glenn Beck if town hall depictions of Obama as Hitler made him uncomfortable. Did she miss the last eight years? One thought. Seeing that Obama’s poll numbers have dropped as they have, I wonder what they’d look like if the media actually grew a pair and applied a normal dose of criticism in their reports? Could he stand a fraction of the heat Bush did?
