It looked more like a 3rd world country's housing area than that of the USA. There were 15 of us or so from Nebraska Christian College, and we were only there for a week. Before rebuilding could take place, the houses need to be COMPLETELY gutted; that was our job. You wouldn't think that people would be so happy to let kids from Nebraska come in and "destroy" their house, but that was part of the rebuilding process. The ones closer to the levies had 6" or more of mud as carpet. I was down there about 9 months after the hurricane. It looked more like a 3rd world country’s housing area than that of the USA.
