200,000 Reasons to Buy a Glock

I am currently without a pistol. For home defense, I have a 12 gauge pump action shotgun, but I have been considering the purchase of a pistol for some time now. Being familiar with a Glock, it’s the handgun I lean towards purchasing.

This just cemented it:

During the first week of October GLOCK, Inc. made several monetary donations to Military and Law Enforcement organizations. On Monday October 5th at the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Conference held in Denver, CO, GLOCK Inc. donated $50K to the Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) Charity. In a continual effort to support Law Enforcement GLOCK, Inc. contributed to an organization committed to helping rebuild the lives of co-workers and family members of Law Enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.

The C.O.P.S. organization is dedicated to supporting friends and families of Law Enforcement officers. With 15,000 members C.O.P.S. provides services to both departments and families dealing with the grief caused after the loss of an officer. The nonprofit organization supports families with scholarships, child and teen camps, counseling and programs designed for spouses and parents.

Across the country in Washington, D.C. at the AUSA Annual Meeting and Exhibits GLOCK, Inc. donated $100K to the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (SOWF) and $50K to the Young Marines.

The Young Marines is a nonprofit youth education and service program for boys and girls, ages eight through completion of high school.

The SOWF’s mission is to provide college education to the surviving children of Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps Special Operations personnel killed in combat or training. Additionally, SOWF provides immediate financial assistance to Special Operations personnel severely wounded in the war against terrorism.

Over the years that I have used a Glock, I have found them to be reliable, sturdy firearms. I know there are some who will have different experiences, and I welcome hearing about them in the comments section. But if you are looking for a good, dependable firearm, Glock makes a good case on why you should choose one of theirs.

Plus, you can do this with it:

  1. There are a number of technical reasons the Glock has continued to have success with professional agencies where other pistols haven’t, as well. I suggest a G19- small enough to carry concealed, big enough to use as a “fighting pistol”. And stay away from .40 S&W caliber.

If you want to geek out over tech specs and performance, just let me know. Otherwise, I say good choice, sir!

I second the Glock 19 choice for concealed carry.

Remember, Glocks only exist in 9mm – stay clear of other calibers! (especially .40 Short & Weak)

Glock is a good choice. Get the .40. It has similar accuracy to the 9mm and similar energy to the .45. The best of both worlds. Don’t get the little one. Compact is cool, but not as accurate unless you have child-size hands. There are several gun dealers in Texas who refurbish trade ins from city police depts. Get one of those for half to two thirds of new. Usually only fired a few times and exceptional maintenence.
