Chris Matthews had Ron Reagan, Jr. and Frank Gaffney on his show and were discussing the American presence in Afghanistan. Besides Matthews’ apparent lack of understanding of what would happen if the American military left, meaning the Taliban would take over and start killing and maiming in the name of Allah, he actually said the religious right in America resembled the Taliban:
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Gentlemen, one of the great ironies of American politics is the group in this country…
FRANK GAFFNEY: Your father would be ashamed of you.
RON REAGAN JR.: Frank, you better watch your mouth about that, Frank.
MATTHEWS: That’s not fair. The group in this country that most resembles the Taliban, ironically, is the religious right.
To that, Gaffney marvelously responded, “Rubbish.”
I wonder when the White House is going to start a war with MSNBC for not being a news organization.

That was messed up. If Matthews has a bone to pick with the “religious right” he should deliver it to the religious right rather than making a snide remark behind the veil of a pathetic news out and show such as Hardball.

Actually, the group here in America that most resembles the Taliban is the extreme left. They seem to be the ones who want to dictate what is acceptable and not acceptable, and they demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with them. That’s how it looks to me anyway.

I use to love Chris Matthews. Now, I can’t even look at his face. His comments yesterday on “Goofball” are proof that Matthews likely has more than just a few screws loose. It now appears as if he has gone completely insane.
I do however take great comfort in knowing that it is likely that he wears Depends to keep that warm feeling from running all the way down his leg and messing up the studio floor every time that Obama speaks.

How does the religious right in America resemble the Taliban? Have I missed the news stories of the religious right performing forced clitoretomies? Or running terrorist training camps? Or preaching the murder of those who do not agree? Are they strapping bombs to children and sending them down the street to the local pizzaria? Do they wear diapers on their heads? Does the religious right in America torture people into professions of faith or conversion? I guess I need to get out more because I have missed all the similarities.
