Tea Party RINO Hunters Bag One in NY-23, Dede Endorses Democrat

Yeah, I know I’m late with this, but I didn’t hear about it until this morning…on my way to church. I just returned.

Turns out Dede could read the writing on the wall and knew she wasn’t going to win. Seeing that reality, she bowed out Saturday:

Republican state assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava said yesterday she was stepping aside after being “outspent on both sides” in the traditionally Republican 23rd congressional district. Republicans have just two other seats in New York’s 29-member House delegation. The special election will be held Nov. 3.

The U.S. House’s Republican leader portrayed Scozzafava loss of support as uncommon and not a sign that the party doesn’t accept moderates.

“This is a pretty unusual circumstance,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, of Ohio, said today on CNN’s “State of the Union” program. “We accept moderates in our party, and we want moderates in our party.”

Here’s the thing: she wasn’t a moderate. She was a out and out liberal. And we should not accept liberals in the party. I’m not sorry about that. And it seems for all the big tent rhetoric about how we have to accept the RINO in the party because it’s all about building numbers, and for the million plus dollars the RNC spend propping up a liberal’s campaign against a conservative, Dede then turned on the party and endorsed the Democrat in the race:

Scozzafava said Democrat Bill Owens would be better at building on the legacy of Republican John McHugh, who previously represented the 23rd Congressional District. McHugh vacated the seat after accepting a position in the Obama administration as secretary of the Army. The special election to replace him is scheduled for Tuesday.

“John and I worked together on the expansion of Fort Drum and I know how important that base is to the economy of this region,” said Scozzafava’s statement. “I am confident that Bill will be able to provide the leadership and continuity of support to Drum Country just as John did during his tenure in Congress.”

There are plenty of establishment Republicans with egg on their faces over this one, and you know who you are. Serves you right for choosing party over principle. Liberals don’t have that problem, as Dede demonstrated with her endorsement. But it’s possible she got something out of the deal. Via Gateway Pundit and Bruce Kesler comes this note from Congressman Daniel Issa:

Astonishingly, the Republican nominee in the special election has dropped out, and endorsed the Democrat! Just hours before she endorsed the Democrat, she received calls from Barack Obama’s chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. She also received calls from the Chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Senator Chuck Schumer. Was Scozzafava promised something in return for her endorsement of the Democrat? Time will tell.

For all the talk about this not being a referendum on the President, the Democrats are sure working all the angles to ensure a victory in a historically Republican district. Having given up in Virginia and possibly losing in New Jersey, I guess they are desperate to prevent a November 3rd Republican hat trick.

Moderates? To this moment the GOP is treating voters like they’re a pack of idiots. I think RINO’s will be in just as much trouble as Democrats next year.
