A. Who charged the organizers with his death?
B. Why was the weapon jamming so much?
C. Why did a father let his 8-year old son shoot an uzi?
D. Why was a 15-year old clearing the weapon?

IF the weapon had malfunctioned and that lead to the child's death, i would side with the parents. HOWEVER, it appears that the gun did NOT malfunction, the boy did not handle it well. Part 1 is the boy putting it up to his shoulder and it "slid down his shoulder", which indicates human error. Part 2 is the discharge happened while the boy was trying to keep it from falling, which also indicates a human mechanism in causing the weapon to fire. His hand was near the trigger, if not on it, because he was going to attempt to fire the weapon again (I believe the 2 'malfunctions' were warnings...).

Duane, you are right in your comments. I'm as hardcore a gun rights advocate as you can be, but I also realize that like any other right, we have to make sound choices, act responsibly, and accept the consequences of our actions. The father clearly is responsible for his child's death and was very foolish in the decision making that brought him and his son to that fatal point. The use of any firearm for sporting or hunting purposes should be preceded by sufficient training to minimize the danger to ones self and others.

Sounds to me like the boys weren't started out young enough learning to respect weapons. They should have be familiarized years before and they would have been able to have a good chance of preventing this. Plenty of blame to go around.

A 15 year old line officer inspecting an Uzi being fired by an 8 year old. There is no way in hell that would have happened at my local club shooting range. You need to be part of the USPSA, USSA, or equivalent to be a line officer. The father was an idiot and the organizers were VERY negligent. That group of people should never be allowed to host another shooting event simply based on their stupidity.

You're absolutely right, of course. Unfortunately, in today's "anything goes" society, it's easier for people to blame others or to sue than to take responsibility for their own actions. Hopefully these people won't get a dime.
