In my book, Gov. Mike Huckabee has one redeeming quality politically. He is an ardent supporter of the Fair Tax. I don’t know any politician, outside of Rep. John Linder, who vocally supports the Fair Tax more than Huckabee.
Other than that, I really have no use for him.
Sorry.
And that’s why I want you to watch his show on Fox News. I know that sounds contradictory, but let me explain.
Higher ratings result in no 2012 campaign:
MIKE HUCKABEE, on “Fox News Sunday,” told Chris Wallace that a 2012 presidential bid is “less than likely,”and depends on whether Roger Ailes, chairman and CEO of Fox News, keeps liking his eponymous weekend talk show. “The reason I wouldn’t is that this Fox gig I’ve got is really wonderful, ” Huckabee said.
As my old school readers recall, I was initially interested in Huckabee, mainly because of his support of the Fair Tax. But when I took a closer look at him, I turned away.
Mike Huckabee is a fatally flawed candidate for the Republicans. As governor, Mike Huckabee did some things that are really going to turn off American voters. The biggest will probably be his role in the parole of a convicted rapist.
I took a lot of flak on Newsvine for that article. I was told that Huckabee released Wayne Dumond because the right wingers wanted him to in order to embarrass Clinton. There may be something to that, but the fact is, Huck is just not that strong on crime.
For example, nine years ago he commuted the sentence of Maurine Clemmons. Clemons is now wanted in the horrific assassination of four police officers in Washington state.
I haven’t really researched it, but I don’t think there were a lot of Republicans lobbying for his release.
As Arkansas Governor, Huckabee had a long record of pardoning criminals—including murders and rapists: HuffPo reports that “between 1996 and 2004, Huckabee helped to free more Arkansas prisoners than were freed from all of Arkansas’ six neighboring states.”
Huckabee may be a really nice guy. But he’s nothing more than a Republican George McGovern. Please, please, please watch his show on Fox and keep him out of the 2012 race.

You might want to do some more research. A lot of the Fair Tax is based on trusting that the Feds will keep their promises. They don’t have a very good record of that. As a CPA I really think the Fair Tax is going to hide what is going on, don’t think we need any more projects and programs hidden from the public. Appears to be another Ponzi scheme which the Feds run so well.

The news today about the commutation of the 60 year sentence of (suspected killer of 4 cops in Washington) Maurice Clemmons 10 years ago by Gov Huckabee will be his ‘Willie Horton’ event and will prevent him from future political office! Sad for such an interesting guy, but this seems to be part of a weakening of the criminal punishment system.

The thing about Huckabee’s release of prisoners: EVERY governor does it, most presidents give pardons, too. The governors listen to their parole boards, and usually follow the recommendations set forth by them. Now, why is the parole board in Arkansas so lax and ridiculous, because this is NOT the only one that Huck pardoned that has been a repeat offender. I’d say our judicial system needs an overhaul so that it’s harder to get paroled/pardoned.

I’m not a fan of the “FairTax” because it doesn’t seem that good of a deal for consumers. for sure, the current system sucks. BUT, I think we need to hit the restart button on our current system and have a FLAT tax (not to be confused with the proposed FlatTax) that everyone pays, with no prebates/rebates/free money. If everyone paid even a tiny amount of their income (5% we’ll say) with no rebates/prebates/refunds, I think our system would be a lot more stable.
Though, it’s not like a new tax structure will fix anything if our government doesn’t get more fiscally responsible.

I don’t even like the fair tax (as it isn’t) however I agree that keeping him doing his how and not running is a very good thing. He is a big government authoritarian who wants the government to meddle in people’s lives as much as the socialists.

I will keep it short, while biting my tongue, to hell with Huckabee, he wanted to give a criminal a second chance, because he thought Clemmons had found God, well, can he give those 4 dead Police Officers a second chance, or their families a second chance. I have been to enough law enforcement funerals, Huckabee failed the state of Arkansas and now those 4 officers families.

I supported in 2008 mainly because of his social conservatism and support for the Fair Tax. I can understand some of the concerns that people have about the fair tax, it’ll only work if income tax is nixed.
If Palin runs in 2012 barring something drastic happening I’ll be supporting her. If she doesn’t I can’t say I’ll be giving Huckabee a second look after this. I think he’s pretty well finished. He still hasn’t been able to overcome his fundraising challenges via Huck PAC. If he can’t get that turned around he won’t be a viable candidate in primary states.
