Need to Hear a Reagan Speech? There’s an App for That

Ok, iPhone loving conservatives, here is the app you have been waiting for since opening that little white box. The Reagan Presidential Library has recently released the Ronald Reagan app, promising to “deliver Ronald Reagan right to your fingertips…”

The efforts of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley (Ventura County) mean that five years after his death, Reagan’s appearance on the iPhone may break new ground, political insiders say.

“What’s smart about it – and why you’ll see it happen more and more – is that people are just living on their mobile devices,” says Wade Randlett, a Silicon Valley Democratic activist and major fundraiser for President Obama. “They’re giving up on laptops because the mobile device does everything you need.”

So I grabbed my iPhone and did a quick iTunes search of Reagan and found there were several Reagan apps out there, but the one they are talking about in the above quote was one of the free ones.

I scrolled down to look at the screenshot and found…Barack Obama.

Unbelievable.

If you are going to design and release an iPhone app for the conservative movement’s icon, you don’t put Obama anywhere near it.

Still can’t fathom the decision making that went into putting that screenshot up.

Regardless, this is a niche I have not seen filled. Libertarian and conservative icons, brought to life via iPhone apps. I want a Milton Friedman app and a Barry Goldwater app. A Thomas Sowell app would be nice too. Perhaps someone could make a William Buckley app.

Any app designers out there? Take some notes. This is gold.

And let’s abstain from adding anything Obama to any of these gems, ok?
