Charles Johnson Goes After Jim Hoft, Punches Logic in Face Instead

Charles Johnson, one time right wing blogger extraordinaire, is going after Jim Hoft for Jim’s consistent condemnation of Obama’s safe school czar Kevin Jennings.

As I noted before, Jennings is founder of GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, and organization that “landed in hot water when it was revealed that it had included an educational seminar for kids that graphically described some unorthodox sex techniques.”

A state official who spoke to teens at the conference said:

“Fisting (forcing one’s entire hand into another person’s rectum or vagina) often gets a bad rap….[It's] an experience of letting somebody into your body that you want to be that close and intimate with…[and] to put you into an exploratory mode.”

Ask me again why we home school.

Jim has more details about the man Obama put in charge of school safety:

For the record, Obama’s “safe” schools czar has been pushing porn books into our children’s classrooms for nearly twenty years. His GLSEN organization’s recommended books include stories of first graders having orgies in the bathroom and teenagers being raped. The children’s books he promoted have pictures of men having sex while boy scouts watch. GLSEN’s recommended reading for teens also includes pamphlets promoting leather bars and public sex in parks. His organization that he founded in the ’90’s and led until 2008 still pushes these books and several other child porn books on 7th through 12th grade students. The safe schools czar organization GLSEN held conferences where they lectured on fisting to children and handed out fisting packs to children.

Because Kevin Jennings is gay and Charles Johnson is now a leftist, rather than address the charges, Charles accuses Hoft of being a homophobe.

Pretty brilliant, right?

When Hoft later decries the main stream media’s refusal to discuss the actions of Jennings’s organization, Charles tries to dismiss Hoft again as a homophobe and attacks the site Hoft proclaims brave enough to carry the story:

Meanwhile, let’s take a closer look at the website of the Bulgarian author he’s praising: Ivan Stamenov — a completely insane conspiracy site that also features articles by Alex Jones, articles about the Illuminati and the New World Order and UFOs, anti-vaccination insanity, and bizarre prophecies of the end of the world. (Hat tip: Gus 802.)

Ok, let’s assume Charles is right and the site is full of Alex Jones style whack jobs.  It doesn’t address the issue.

Charles has committed two different logical fallacies in his tit for tat with the Gateway Pundit.

When Hoft brings up the issue, Johnson calls him a homophobe.  That’s called an ad hominem logical fallacy.  It means, “attack to the man.”  Johnson isn’t addressing the fact that Jennings’s group did what they did.  He instead goes after the person presenting the argument.

I don’t think Jim Hoft is a homophobe, but whether he is or isn’t has no bearing on the argument.  Address the actions of Jennings.  If the accusations are false, prove it.  He hasn’t.

His second logical fallacy is the appeal to ridicule.  It goes like this:

  1. X, which is some form of ridicule is presented (typically directed at the claim).
  2. Therefore claim C is false.

Rather than address the claim, Johnson again dismisses it and goes after the site.

So now, rather than defending Jennings, Johnson is now threatening to sue Hoft for defamation.

If Jennings did nothing wrong, prove it.  As of yet, it’s been deflect and attack, deflect and ridicule, deflect and attack.   Really, logic isn’t that hard.  Just address the issue.

I think there’s far too many heterophobes in your article. funny how that’s not a word, but homophobe is.

I don’t consider Alex Jones a whack job. On the edge of conspiracy maybe, but not a nut. How does someone like Johnson do an ideological 180 that quickly?
