Last night when I went to bed, every poll was in Scott Brown’s favor:
- New poll: Brown up 9
- Poll: Scott Brown surges to double-digit lead over Martha Coakley
- 538 Model Posits Brown as 3:1 Favorite
Even bookies were paying up to people who bet on Brown:
“Enough is enough. It seems that Senator Brown just has to get out of bed tomorrow to win convincingly. As far as were concerned, this race is well and truly over,” said Paddy Power, Irelands largest bookmaker.
Before shutting down the betting, Mr. Brown had gone from 5-4 odds to 1-5 (meaning if a bettors put down $5, they only stood to make $1 if Mr. Brown wins). The odds against his opponent — Democrat Martha Coakley, the state’s attorney general — soared, from 4-7 to win to 3-1 to lose.
But polls are one thing and reality is another. Hopefully all the polls are dead on and Brown pulls this one out, but we can’t expect polls to get out and vote. We can’t expect polls to drive voters to the polls. We can’t expect the polls to keep the opposition honest.
The one thing we can out on is a desperate left who will not hesitate to lie, cheat and steal to win an election.
So don’t let the polls lull you into a false sense of security. If you are in Massachusetts, by all means get to the polls and vote. And bring a friend, even if they are one of those friends I talked about yesterday.
Go alone if you have to, but go. And don’t think your vote will just affect Massachusetts. This is nationwide, baby!
An upset like this can shake the liberal sensibilities of moderate, power hungry career politicians to their very core. Make them see the Tea Parties and the Town Hall events were more than just a bunch of kooks.
Make them fear for their jobs. It’s the only thing that will really make them change.
Good luck.
