First Palin, Now Romney Endorses McCain

Fresh of a second place win in the CPAC straw poll, Mitt Romney went as solidified his conservative credentials by endorsing Sen. John McCain for re-election:

Romney portrayed McCain as a ‘liberal democrat’, tantamount to blasphemy for Republican audiences and claimed McCain had considered running alongside the Democratic presidential candidate, John Kerry, in 2004.

Oh wait, that’s what he said about McCain in 2008. Here’s what he said about him today:

Romney said in a statement Tuesday the Arizona senator‘s “record of service and sacrifice for America is honored by all.” The former Massachusetts governor added, “It’s hard to imagine the U.S. Senate without John McCain.”

Yes, that’s very nice. It’s a given that McCain’s “record of service and sacrifice for America is honored by all.” That’s no reason to re-elect him. It’s not a “Get Away with Anything” card. This is the man who teamed up with liberal Russ Feingold and created the BiPartisan Campaign Reform Act, a law that trampled on your First Amendment rights. This is the same guy that teamed up with Joe Lieberman back in 2003 and tried to institute cap and trade before anyone had heard of Barack Obama.

And this is the same guy who teamed up with Sen. Ted Kennedy to create the amnesty plan.

It’s time for John McCain to go home and spend some time with his wife and daughter. Let Hayworth or Simcox sacrifice for Arizona for a while.

I think Romney is making a big mistake here. I love John McCain’s patriotism and anti-pork stance, but it’s time for him to step aside. He is out of step with the rising libertarian-conservative movement and he’s just standing in the way of real progress – anti-progressivism progress. Romney does himself no favors by ignoring the message being sent – loud and clear imho – by the people in VA, NJ and MA. And the people around the country involved in the Tea Party movement.

I can understand Palin’s endorsement as a matter of loyalty. But, Romney? It reeks of the cronyism against which the people are railing.

I too can understand Palin’s endorsement. Now we have to wait and see if she is going to campaign for him and just how hard she is going to work for him.
I do not understand Romney’s endorsement though. What is he thinking???? Okay, but the timing is good. We now know who Romney is and we know we don’t want him on the ticket. So this is a good thing, even if we lose AZ to McCain.

McCain needs to be put out to pasture. I’m a little sad I’ll be moving out of Arizona before I get the chance to vote against him this fall.
